AI SEO for HVAC Contractors

When a homeowner asks ChatGPT who to call, someone gets named. It should be you.

Search stopped being a list of links.

A homeowner types “why is my AC blowing warm air” and Google answers at the top of the page, in its own words, citing a handful of sources. Another one opens ChatGPT and asks for the best HVAC company in town. Neither of them scrolls. Neither of them clicks ten blue links and compares.

Somebody gets mentioned in those answers. Right now, in most markets, it’s whoever happened to publish something useful — not whoever’s best.

That’s the opening.

Why this matters now

Two out of three searches never click anything

~68%of US Google searches end without a click to any website
~83%end without a click when an AI Overview appears on the page

Source: SparkToro study via Search Engine Land, early 2026.

Read that again as a contractor: two out of three people who search get their answer and never visit anybody’s site. If you’re not inside the answer, you weren’t part of the conversation.

  • You get credited without being visited. Being named as the source builds trust before anyone lands on your site.
  • It reaches people earlier. The homeowner researching a noise at 10pm isn’t ready to call yet. Being the one who explained it makes you the one they call tomorrow.
  • Almost no contractor is doing it. This is the same situation Google Business Profiles were in ten years ago. The bar is on the floor.
The honest version

Read this before you buy it from anyone

Most of what’s being sold as “AI SEO” right now is repackaged hype, and you should know where the real opportunity actually is before you pay anyone for it.

AI Overviews show up far more on questions than on emergencies. Somebody typing “ac repair near me” at 2pm in July is still getting a map with three businesses in it. That search is won by your Google Business Profile and your reviews — not by AI SEO. Anybody telling you AI optimization will win you emergency calls is selling you something.

Where it does matter is everything before the emergency. “Why is my furnace short cycling.” “How much should a new AC cost in your city.” “Is it worth repairing a 15-year-old unit.” Those get AI answers, they get asked constantly, and they’re where a homeowner decides who sounds like they know what they’re doing.

And it matters when someone asks for a recommendation outright. When a homeowner asks ChatGPT for the best HVAC company in your town, the model is pulling from what exists about you across the web — your profile, real reviews, and anywhere you’re mentioned on somebody else’s site.

Which means most of this is downstream of the fundamentals. A complete profile, real reviews and content that actually answers questions are what make you citable in the first place. AI SEO isn’t a separate machine bolted on the side. It’s the fundamentals, pointed at a new surface, plus a few specific things below.

We’d rather tell you that than sell you a mystery.

Our approach

Five things, in order

01

Answer the questions people actually ask

We pull the real questions homeowners in your market type and ask — not keyword lists, actual questions. Then we write direct answers: the answer first, in plain English, in the first two sentences. AI systems lift clean, self-contained answers. They skip 800 words of throat-clearing before the point.

02

Make the site readable to machines

Schema markup, structured data, clean heading order. This is the plumbing that lets a system parse what your page says and trust that it says it. Most contractor sites have none of it.

03

Prove there’s a real business behind the words

Experience, expertise, authority, trust — the thing every AI system is trying to assess before it repeats you. For a contractor that means named technicians, real job photos, your license number displayed, your service area stated plainly, and reviews that corroborate all of it.

04

Get mentioned somewhere other than your own site

Models weigh what other sites say about you far more heavily than what you say about yourself. Local roundups, directories, supplier and manufacturer pages, industry sites. This is the slow, unglamorous half of the work, and it’s the half that moves recommendation answers.

05

Test what the machines actually say

We ask ChatGPT, Google and the rest the questions your customers ask, and we look at whether you come up. If you don’t, we find out who did and what they have that you don’t. Then we fix that specific gap and check again.

Google AI Overviews

Google’s AI Overview sits above everything and answers in its own words, citing a few sources underneath. For informational HVAC questions it now appears constantly, and when it does, the click-through rate on everything below it drops sharply.

We build content designed to be liftable: a clear question as the heading, a direct answer immediately underneath, supporting detail after. Structured data so the page is machine-parseable. Deep pages — guides and posts — matter more here than your homepage does, because those are what get cited.

ChatGPT and other assistants

Different mechanism, same principle. Assistants like ChatGPT and Copilot generate a recommendation from what they can find about you and what other sources say about you. There’s no ranking to buy and no dashboard to log into.

What moves it is being unmistakably real and well-documented across the open web — consistent name, address and phone everywhere, a genuine review history, and mentions on sites you don’t control. It’s the same trust problem Google has been solving for twenty years, which is why the fundamentals carry so much of this.

What’s included

The work, plainly listed

AI visibility audit

We ask the AI platforms the questions your customers ask and record what comes back — whether you appear, who does, and what those competitors have that you don’t. You get the actual answers, not a score out of a hundred.

Question-first content

New pages and rewrites of existing ones, built around real homeowner questions, structured so the answer is liftable. Written for a homeowner, not for a crawler.

Schema and structured data

Service, business and page markup across the site so machines can parse what you do, where you do it, and who you are.

Authority and mentions

Getting your business named on third-party sites that AI systems read — local roundups, directories, industry and manufacturer pages.

Mention tracking

We re-run the same prompts monthly and log what changed. You see the actual answer text over time, not a metric we invented.

How you’ll know it’s working

You read the transcript

We’re new, and we’re not going to show you invented case studies.

What you get instead is the transcript. We record what ChatGPT and Google say about your market on day zero, before we change anything, and we re-run the identical prompts every month. You read the answers yourself and watch your name appear.

Be realistic about the timeline. This is slower than fixing a Google Business Profile and there is no lever anyone can pull to force a citation. Nobody can guarantee an AI mentions you — not us, not anyone, and the vendors promising it are guessing.

Why Talos

Four reasons

One client per market

One HVAC company per market. If we’re working with you, we won’t take the shop across town. We fight your competition, not build it.

We told you which half is hype

Read the honest version above again. Most of this industry won’t say it.

You own everything

Your domain, your site, your profile, your content, your leads.

60 days, or your money back

If we haven’t earned it, ask and you get your fees back. Ad spend we can’t refund — that goes straight to Google and we never hold it.

FAQ

Straight answers

No. Emergency calls come from the map pack and your reviews. AI SEO reaches people earlier, before they need you. Both matter; they do different jobs.

No, and nobody can. There’s no ranking to buy and no dashboard to log into. What we can do is make you the most obviously credible option in your market and show you the answers changing over time.

It overlaps heavily, and we’d rather say so. Complete profile, real reviews, content that answers questions — that’s most of it. The AI-specific parts are schema, question-first formatting, and mentions on sites you don’t own.

No. Finish the profile first. We’ll tell you that in the audit rather than selling you the shinier thing.

We save the AI answers before we start and re-run the same questions monthly. You read them yourself.

Ask ChatGPT who the best HVAC company in your town is

See whether you come up. If you don’t, that’s the whole pitch. We’ll send you a free audit showing what the AI platforms currently say about your market, who they’re naming, and what it would take to be one of them.
